OCR Text Recognition

OCR Text Recognition extracts editable, searchable text from images, screenshots, and scanned documents directly in your browser. Powered by Tesseract.js — a WebAssembly port of the industry-standard Tesseract OCR engine — the tool recognizes printed text in over 100 languages including English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, and major European languages, all without sending a single pixel to a remote server. The workflow is deliberately simple. Drop an image (JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, or GIF) onto the upload area, pick the source language from the dropdown, and click Extract Text. The engine downloads a compact language data file on first use — typically 2 to 15 MB depending on the script — then runs the full recognition pipeline locally. A live progress bar reports each phase: loading the engine, initializing the language model, and recognizing characters. Once finished, the extracted text appears in an editable textarea where you can correct any recognition errors inline before copying or downloading the result as a .txt file. Accuracy depends on image quality. For best results, use high-resolution, high-contrast images with clean backgrounds. Screenshots of code, typed documents, receipts, and printed labels recognize near-perfectly. Handwriting, skewed text, and low-light photos produce lower accuracy. For multi-language documents, select the dominant script — CJK characters and Latin letters can coexist within the same recognition pass. Because every computation happens client-side through WebAssembly workers, this tool is ideal for confidential material: contracts, ID cards, medical records, and internal documents that must never leave your machine.
